Introducing Lola Ruth: Our first 2025 project

We are thrilled to introduce you to Lola Ruth, the first of our 2025 projects! Lola Ruth is a 7-year old girl who was adopted from Bulgaria in 2020.  Born with Down Syndrome, she faces unique challenges,  including being nonverbal and non-ambulatory. Due to developmental delays, she functions at the level of a 6-9 month old and also battles epilepsy, which presents additional safety concerns for this project. 

Currently, Lola Ruth's bedroom is a space that doesn't fully meet her needs. The room is outfitted with two twin beds, but is lacking the functional elements necessary to provide her both safety and independence. Therapy equipment is scattered throughout, and there is a significant lack of storage, making it difficult to maintain an organized and accessible environment.  

As part of our commitment to creating spaces that cater to each child's unique needs, our primary goal with this project is to transform Lola Ruth's bedroom into a safe and accessible sanctuary. A key necessity for Lola Ruth is a custom designed, specialized tented bed that ensures her safety during seizure episodes. This design will help us create an environment where Lola Ruth can feel secure, while also making her space comfortable and functional. 

​Lola Ruth has a deep love for lights and interactive elements. This will play an important role in her bedroom transformation. By incorporating stimulating and engaging elements, we aim to foster a sense of joy and exploration while meeting her sensory needs. Interactive lighting and other sensory-friendly features will not only make her space more enjoyable but will also support her developmental progress in a playful way. 

This project is more than just creating a bedroom. It's about designing a space where Lola Ruth can thrive - an environment that balances safety, accessibility, and enjoyment. We are excited to begin this journey and look forward to sharing the progress of Lola Ruth's new bedroom as we create a space that empowers her to live her life with comfort, confidence, and joy.
