Our team recently had the privilege of designing a bedroom for Margaux, crafting a space tailored to her unique needs that will grow with her as she matures. Margaux is an outgoing and joyful 5-year-old born with spinal muscular atrophy, and our goal throughout this project was to reflect her vibrant spirit in every aspect of the design. Our primary focus was to create multifunctional space that not only addresses Margaux’s health requirements but also exudes a playful atmosphere that feels distinctly “her”. By keeping her personality and functional needs at the forefront, we ensured that the room would be both practical and uplifting. A key feature of Margaux’s room design is the adjustable bed, which allows her to sit comfortably while receiving IV fluids. Additionally, we found a custom IV pole that matches the room aesthetic, tailored to her height, and designed to be both concealed and stationary. To enhance convenience, we incorporated a bedside table with dedicated opening for the machinery associated with the IV pole, keeping everything organized and accessible. The custom dresser was crafted with versatility in mind, serving as both a changing table and support for a crib mattress. This adaptability maximizes functionality while accommodating Margaux’s evolving needs as she grows. To ensure smooth movement throughout the room, we selected a low pile rug that is perfect for accommodating wheelchairs and other mobility aids. Understanding the need for additional storage, we incorporated under-bed storage bins and added an armoire to provide extra closet space. These elements help maintain a tidy and organized environment. We are proud to have created a space that inspired joy and comfort for Margaux, one that truly reflects her vibrant personality and supports her journey.
